The ambiance is undoubtedly different but surely the treatment could have been more gripping."[10] Another critic wrote "The storyline is just stupid and should have never been. But Ravichandran makes a better director than a story-writer, and the movie is at least watchable."[11] Another reviewer noted "The listless romance and the amateurish attempts at portraying terrorism here just prove that the same issues that were merged so effortlessly and effectively in Manirathnam's classic, Roja (1992), can also be combined to create a film that resides on the other end of the 'watchable' scale."[12]

After I graduated from high school I initially joined the Army National Guard and when I returned from basic training, I signed up for classes at Mass Bay Community College. I was only in school for a few months when my unit was called to activation and we were deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Desert Storm. I remember the images like it was yesterday. The heat was overwhelming. I saw men walking around wearing white robes and red head wraps. I felt like I was looking at a movie. It was very strange to be in the Middle East coming from Massachusetts and being so young. I experienced a culture shock in the midst of a violent war. The experience I gained during that time was invaluable and it helped shape the adult I would become. I saw a level of poverty in that country that I couldn't process. The entire experience made me so grateful to be an American and have the comfort and protections so many of us take for granted.
After my experience overseas, I knew the military was something I wanted to do full time. So after my initial contract was over in the Army National Guard, I joined the Army on active duty. I managed to take some college classes on base at our education centers over the course of my military career. Most military bases have education centers for satellite college campuses so military personnel can take classes. I would be deployed 8 more times over the years and my college career kept getting interrupted. I did manage to get an associate's degree from Honolulu Community College in Hawaii. After I retired last year, I decided I wanted to finally use the remainder of my educational benefits and attend school full time. It is both challenging and inspiring to be attending school with mostly young people. At first I felt out of place and a little embarrassed about being a much older person in class, but I quickly saw there is much diversity here at the University of Massachusetts Boston. There are people from all over the world here as well as people from various age groups. I enjoy my classes and I find the faculty and staff here at UMass very professional and helpful. I'm glad to be able to finally do this. My specialty in the military was law enforcement and criminal investigations. My short-term goal is to finish my bachelor degree and my long-term goal is to get as far as I can get in my education. Some day I would love to teach what I learned over the years in law enforcement and the military and help shape the minds of the next up and coming generation. Both of my parents have passed away but I know they will be looking down on me with pride when I walk across the stage with that diploma in my hand."

The first time I saw a Shahrukh Khan film in full, I wasn't impressed--at first. I didn't know he was a huge worldwide star and I didn't think he was that cute, to be honest. But at some point early on in the movie, I pressed pause because I had to tell someone on the phone how great this guy was and WHO is he and why doesn't everyone know about him? He was magnetic, he was charming and actually SO cute, he was standing on a moving bus and singing (well, lip-synching) about his country and I was a goner.
